Based in Austin, I am a science fiction writer, journalist, futurologist, Net critic and cyberspace theorist. I blog at Beyond the Beyond for Wired Magazine.

I am probably best known for my work on ‘Mirrorshades: The Cyberpunk Anthology’ which helped define the genre. My nonfiction work includes the futurist work ‘Tomorrow now: envisioning the next fifty years’.

In addition to writing, I have held several Visionary in Residence posts: at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 2005, the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam in 2008, and the Art Center in California in 2011 where I ran a special project in augmented reality.

In 2008 I was also the Guest Curator for the Share Festival of Digital Art and Culture in Torino.
