I don’t know about you, but I’d be...
I’m a structural engineer specialising in wooden and historic structures.
My first project at Arup was working with renowned architect Renzo Piano who wanted to use wood as a building material. The experience started my fascination with wood as an amazingly strong, light and sustainable material that looks good too. My aim is to see wood increasingly used alongside steel and concrete, especially on larger projects.
My other passions include teaching, writing and working as part of a collaborative team. Developing the best building designs comes from everyone in the team fully comprehending the engineering issues involved, and often my role in the team is to help my colleagues reach that level of understanding.
