Space elevators are a permanent infrastructure...
I am a chartered structural engineer, and an application specialist in the Oasys Software group. I have tended to specialise as a generalist, spending half my career as a practicing engineer and half working on software tools for other engineers to use, whether structural, pedestrian modelling, or CAD. This regularly includes running training courses for practicing or student engineers, giving webinars, writing, and answering lots of questions.
I am fascinated by complexity and paradoxes, and find that complex problems often need cross-disciplinary thinking. Solutions cannot always be derived, but sometimes need searching for instead, often with a certain amount of looking at it sideways.
Apart from my degree in Civil Engineering, I have also studied computer programming, Artificial & Natural Intelligence, and Complexity science.
