Half the world’s population now lives in urban areas and this presents both challenges and opportunities. My background is in planning and anthropology and I think this is a good combination for trying to understand the complex inter-relationships that exist in cities.
I have worked for Arup for about twenty years and recent activities have included research on urbanisation for Arup’s Drivers of Change programme, research on urban mobility for the World Economic Forum, and current work with the UK Government on low emission vehicles. I have also been working with the C40 Cities on a programme of UrbanLife workshops to address climate change and resilience.
